Editing,Over five years, I copy edited more than a dozen exhibition catalogues published by the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. In many cases, that work extended beyond simply ensuring the text adheres to the museum’s style guide, as when the essays were translated into English, for example, or written by people for whom English is a second language. My knowledge of modern and contemporary art also helped me to ask substantive questions that prodded the authors to cite other scholars, close holes in their arguments, or consider alternate perspectives. After this work, I was sufficiently trusted by the museum’s publications staff that I was asked to edit one of its new executive director’s major public statements.
