Art21 is a New York–based nonprofit that expands access to contemporary art by producing and distributing documentary films, resources, and public programs. In early 2024, the organization asked me to copy edit Artists & the Unknown, its second anthology of artist interviews drawn from its deep archives. I worked with associate curator Jurrell Lewis to standardize terminology across the book’s eighteen conversations, ensure the references to artworks didn’t point outside the transcripts, and make everything conform to the Art21 style guide.
The work went so well that I have since been asked to help with a range of copywriting and editing tasks, and including for such pivotal efforts as the organization’s spring gala and annual report.
